The Campopalazzi Agriturismo is located in Murlo, an important archeological center for the study of the Etruscan civilization as well as the past home of the Bishop of Siena.
The closest town, Casciano di Murlo, is located 4.5 kilometers from the farm.  There you can find a supermarket, bank, post office, pharmacy, and other shops and restaurants.  Murlo is a small and isolated medieval village enclosed by walls that date back to the XII century.  It is situated upon a hill that overlooks the Crevole stream.
The Medieval is omnipresent in the buildings and churches, but the Etruscan civilization is just as present.  The first traces of their settlement in this area dates back to the Etruscan age (VII and VI centuries BCE.).  There have been many archeological finds made from this period at Poggio Civitate, located just south east of Murlo.  At this archeological site, various digs have resulted in the discovery of two important structures: one Orientalizing in style and the other Archaic.  There was a large quantity of items found with these structures including objects in ivory, bone, ceramic, bronze and alabaster. You can now find these objects in the Archeological Museum of Murlo (Museo Civico Archeologico di Murlo).  If you visit this museum, you can admire the beautiful building, known as the “Palazzone.”  This building was the headquarters to the Bishop of Murlo, governed by the Bishop of Siena, during the medieval period (XI-XII centuries). The surrounding area is scattered with castles, towers, fortified walls, churches and hermitages that date back to this period.

There are many places you won’t want to miss in the Val di Merse including the San Galgano Abby (a hot spot for concerts during the summer season), Sovicille, and Chiusdino.  Murlo is also quite close to San Quirico d’Orcia, Montalcino, Bagno Vignoni, Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Pienza and many other sites rich in art and history.
